The lodges we use near Sossusvlei sit close enough to the dune fields that a sunrise start doesn't mean an hour of driving before the light is already gone — timing that matters enormously in a landscape defined by how the shadows fall across the dunes.
Most properties out here run entirely or partly on solar power by necessity, and the better ones lean into the isolation rather than fighting it — minimal light pollution, genuinely dark skies, and rooms designed to be looked out of rather than just slept in.
We choose partners here based partly on how seriously they take water conservation, since this is one of the most water-scarce landscapes we operate in.
