Uganda

Uganda is the most physical of our three East African destinations, and deliberately so. This is where we send guests who want a trip they earn on foot rather than one they watch from a vehicle seat — rainforest treks through Bwindi to track mountain gorillas, and multi-day climbs into the volcanic highlands of the Albertine Rift that leave legs sore and phones full of photos in roughly equal measure.

This is where Moseville's guiding crew carries more of the load than you'd expect, and still has dinner ready and the fire lit by the time you stagger into camp. There's no subcontracted trek operator picking up the physical half of the trip once the safari portion ends — the same team meets you at the airport and walks every ridgeline alongside you.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas, and the permit-controlled trek to spend a guarded hour with a habituated family is, for most guests, the single most reordering wildlife encounter of their lives — an animal that shares the overwhelming majority of its DNA with us, entirely unbothered by a small, quiet human presence because generations of patient ranger work made it so.

Beyond the gorillas, the Albertine Rift's volcanic highlands offer summit treks with views across the Rift Valley that rival anything in East Africa, and Uganda's terraced highland scenery — tea plantations stepping down hillsides, roadside markets, banana groves — makes even the transit days between activities genuinely scenic.
