Zambia is close in spirit to the most active side of our Kenya work — South Luangwa is where the walking safari was pioneered, and it remains one of the best places on the continent to track game on foot with an armed, professionally licensed guide rather than from a vehicle seat.

The bush camps we use along the Luangwa River keep to a similar philosophy across the board: open-fronted rooms that put you close to the sounds of the bush at night, small guest counts, and walking guides who are as much a part of the camp's identity as the setting itself.
Several of our partner camps here are family-run operations with decades of history in South Luangwa specifically, predating the park's more recent rise in popularity — a continuity that shows in how thoroughly the guiding staff know the terrain.
Electricity and hot water run on generator schedules at some camps rather than round the clock, which is a fair trade for how far into genuinely wild bush these properties sit.
